Friday, May 6th – Sunday, May 8th
Candid Arts, 3 Torrens Street, EC1V 1NQ, London
Psychoanalysis, Art and the Occult is a three day conference taking place in Angel, London; curated by Vanessa Sinclair and Carl Abrahamsson. I’ll be presenting my paper on initiation and rites of passage titled Before and After: Devouring Tigers in the Houses of Darkness and co-facilitating the closing ceremony. Speakers will be from the English and New York occult scene, psychoanalysts and artists.
The purpose of this conference is to bring together a diverse group of psychoanalysts, occultists and artists to share their views on human subjectivity and culture. Through an investigation of the unique modes and methodologies utilized by each individual practitioner, we may explore human experience via the convergence of domains that rarely speak to one another yet often work in similar and complementary ways.
Love Magic in Hoodoo
Tuesday, May 10th, 7:30 – 9pm
Treadwell’s Bookshop, 33 Store Street WC1E 7BS, London
At the historic Treadwell’s, I’ll be giving a talk on the principles operating in love magic in hoodoo, the African-American folk magic tradition. In this lecture, I’ll explain the key ideas and central practices; personal concerns and their uses; the idea and use of ‘sweeteners’; as well as how hoodoo understands and implements binding and domination towards practical ends. NOTE: This is a lecture on theory and ideas, not a practical workshop.
